Stanford University\'s premier (and only) mock trial team. Stanford Mock Trial competes in the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), which governs collegiate mock trial across the country. Competing across the country, Stanford Mock Trial members sharpen their legal skills through simulated court cases. In any given round, Stanford will compete against another school with one side as the plaintiff/prosecution and the other as the defense. Members will be attorneys and witnesses, giving everything from opening and closing statements, to whacky character witnesses. Through these competitions, members develop a keen understanding of trial advocacy, the law, and general public speaking. They master off the cuff thinking through objection battles while honing performance in all other aspects. And they are, by the account of many a judge, better than real attorneys. Stanford Mock Trial competes around the country, from LA to DC, and its season lasts from early October to early April. SMT members develop lifelong friendships and connections, as their teamwork in the courtroom translates to real life success once they graduate.
