As the Lead Epidemiologist for the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Work Equity Research Center (WERC), I specialize in bridging the gap between data science and health equity. My work is driven by a deep commitment to advancing worker safety and equity, particularly for underserved populations. My expertise in biostatistics and epidemiology, honed through rigorous academic training and practical experience, allows me to approach complex health issues with a data-driven and socially conscious perspective.My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s in Psychology, followed by a Master’s in Sports Exercise Psychology. This foundation led me to further specialize, earning a Biomedical Science certification from Florida State University and a doctorate in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from Florida A&M University. My doctoral research focused on the intersection of social determinants of health and epidemiology, examining the effect modification of physical activity within African American populations compared to their white counterparts. This work reflects my ongoing dedication to addressing health disparities and promoting equity through scientific inquiry.In addition to my current role, I have made significant contributions to the field of public health, including authoring an article in the CDC\'s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) titled “Notes from the Field: Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Infections After Cosmetic Surgery Procedures in Florida — Nine States, 2022–2023.” This publication underscores my commitment to applying rigorous research to real-world health challenges.As a speaker, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and insights on data science, health equity, and epidemiology with diverse audiences. I engage in public speaking to advocate for health equity, inspire action, and promote the importance of evidence-based approaches in public health.
