ABOUT STEIN ERICKSON

At Universal Music Group, Stein leads a team of data scientists and analysts shaping data-driven strategy across the business. He’s passionate about using data from the world’s biggest artists and tech platforms to empower creativity, connection, and commercial growth — always mindful that music is about emotion, not just metrics. His expertise spans major streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple, Amazon, YouTube, Meta, and TikTok) as well as physical D2C data.A self-taught coder (Python, SQL, HTML & React), Stein delivers predictive modelling, trend forecasting, artist discovery, data-driven A&R, process automation, LLM backend and tool development, commercial analytics, KPI tracking, and fraud detection. While implementing machine learning solutions, he excels at communicating insights clearly — including to executive leadership at the C-suite level.As co-chair of the Staff Charity Committee at UMG’s London office since 2021, Stein has led a team of over 50 members to deliver meaningful impact across the community. Through the committee, he has organized and hosted benefit concerts, volunteering days for staff, food bank collections, coat drives for rough sleepers, and networking events, raising thousands of pounds for UK-based charities. In his spare time, Stein volunteers with KEEN London (with over 80 sessions completed), supporting disabled children through sport. He has also mentored multiple musicians through Help Musicians, a leading UK charity, and taught Data & Analytics at Brixton Prison through Breakthrough, a social enterprise bridging the gap between incarceration and employment.Driven by a love of teaching and continuous learning, Stein has developed and taught internal coding courses, empowering colleagues to build their technical skills in SQL, Python, and Looker Studio. He’s passionate about goal setting and helping his team members reach their full potential.Outside of work and volunteering, Stein enjoys going to hip-hop gigs, reading (especially economics, history, sci-fi, classics, fantasy, and psychology), and staying active through sports such as rugby (where he plays for his local club), tennis, weightlifting, and basketball.
