WORK HISTORY
Lead Engineer System Planning - Modeling and Forecasting @Eversource Energy
Berlin, CT, US
Lead and organized a team of engineers, rotational engineers, and interns, totaling up to 12 reports at times. Built and structured the team such, that operational requests and forward-looking automation projects could be successfully fulfilled simultaneously. Onboarded 6 rotational engineers within 3 months to become fully functional. Worked closely with key stakeholders from other teams on larger projects, such as IT, for a Probabilistic Load Flow project as the technical lead and with Connecticut Distribution Engineering operations to deliver the 2024 Summer Preparedness bulk simulation results. Established a Service- and Resource Management System, connecting directly from IT-Connect into a Jira platform, for the benefit of optimizing and tracking the team’s performance and output. Took ownership of Synergi Electric – Eversource’s modeling software – by establishing an end-to-end model-build process, standing up a support team and process to integrate the modeling application more effectively to other key systems. Evaluated, selected, and stood up the first Integrated Development Environment enabling end-to-end application design inside System Planning. Selected specialized computational machines and worked with IT to implement these in the Eversource server center. Established a partnerships, supporting the technical computational needs. Integrated Synergi with MATLAB. Supported Integrated Energy Planning Efforts by providing a Non-Pipeline-Alternative solution, Non-Wires-Alternative framework and PI-based Energy Forecasting system. Managed team, by setting and measuring goals. Empowered team by providing trainings in coding, power systems engineering and organizational tasks. Striving to build a team of excellence and establishing a culture of innovation and accomplishing projects on time and within budget while maintaining a high employee retention level.

SKILLS
ABOUT STEFFEN ZIEGLER
I am a Lead Engineer in Advanced Forecasting and Modeling with over 20 years of experience developing and deploying engineering solutions across power systems, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. My work focuses on applying advanced modeling, forecasting, and automation to improve distribution grid planning, investment decisions, and operational performance. At Eversource Energy, I lead multidisciplinary teams delivering both near‑term operational solutions and long‑term automation initiatives. I serve as a technical lead for major cross‑functional programs spanning probabilistic load flow, interconnection automation, integrated energy planning, and large‑scale grid simulations. A core part of my role is modernizing system planning through data‑driven workflows, scalable software architectures, and enterprise‑grade integration of tools such as Synergi Electric, MATLAB, and high‑performance computing environments.Previously, I spent more than two decades at IMCORP, where I led research, engineering, and software teams developing AI‑driven diagnostic and predictive maintenance systems for underground transmission and distribution assets. My work there applied machine learning, deep learning, and digital signal processing to large‑scale field data, helping utilities improve reliability, reduce risk, and prevent outages.I bring a strong foundation in power systems engineering, data science, and software development, combined with hands‑on leadership experience spanning R&D, product development, and operations. I have authored and presented peer‑reviewed work for IPST, CIRED, and Cigré, and I actively contribute to industry standards and technical committees.I am motivated by solving complex engineering problems at the intersection of power systems and AI - building practical, scalable solutions that enable a more resilient, efficient, and data‑driven electric grid.
