As a full-time Associate Professor, C/T in the Department of Community Dentistry and Population Health, School of Dental Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, I co-direct the Community Public Health 1 & 2, Gerontology & Geriatric Health Care, Advanced Clinical Geriatric Dentistry, Global Health, and Nutrition courses integrating Interprofessional Practice and Education for both pre-post-doctoral students. I deeply engage in initiatives targeting geriatric, special needs, vulnerable, underserved, Hispanic, and rural populations both locally and globally. Additionally, and community outreach. I am currently participating in the University of Colorado Anschutz’s GeriCare EveryWhere-Geriatric Dental Fellowship program, which trains geriatric clinicians in multidisciplinary healthcare approaches to enhance the care of medically complex, compromised, and vulnerable older adults.Grants and ResearchHealth Equity Scholars Program-Health and Aging Brain Study-Health Disparities (HABS-HD) Mentored Career Development Award July 2024 – Present Project: “Exploring Neurological and Indirect Biomarkers for Potential Correlations with Oral Health: An Interdisciplinary Approach”. NIDCR R21 Oral diseases and quality of life in older adults on anti-retroviral therapy in Uganda (ODQoL-UG)(PI) dual PI mechanism (Prof. Samuel Maling)-Mbarara University of Science and Technology. August 2023 – June 2025 This research is designed to contribute fundamental knowledge about the multimorbidity of HIV, geriatric syndromes comprising frailty, depression, and cognitive decline, and oral health in older adults living with HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa as well as mechanisms of integrating oral health into routine HIV care.
