ABOUT STEFFANIE MUNGUÍA

I’m a conservation scientist passionate about protecting wildlife and wild places—especially birds—and making sure that conservation work benefits both ecosystems and people. I\'m currently based at Zoo Miami, where I work on avian research and conservation programs that connect science, community impact, and policy. My background blends field ecology, environmental policy, and collaborative program design. Whether I’m banding neotropical migrants, supporting habitat monitoring, or helping build partnerships across institutions, I focus on work that’s grounded in equity, science, and long-term sustainability.I’ve led or supported conservation projects across North and Latin America with a focus on building partnerships that respect local knowledge and strengthen biodiversity outcomes, from coordinating wetland research to shaping environmental justice reports with the UN. I also serve on several boards and working groups that push for more inclusive leadership and representation in environmental spaces. As a bilingual (English/Spanish), multicultural professional, I’m passionate about making conservation more inclusive and accessible. Whether coordinating research or advising on equity initiatives, I bring curiosity, care, and cross-cultural fluency to everything I do. Interests: birds, wetlands, science-informed conservation policy, advocacy, international collaboration, environmental equity, and building strong coalitions for lasting impact.Let’s connect if you’re working on similar goals—or just want to talk birds and biodiversity. 🦜
