Stefan Johnson is an award-winning Creative Entrepreneur turned Corporate Banker, and Director of SME Business Banking for HSBC UK.He leads a team of Relationship Managers supporting London SMEs with turnovers up to £25m, helping ambitious businesses unlock growth through trusted relationships and innovative funding solutions.Stefan’s journey into banking was unconventional – He originally trained in broadcasting and launched a video production company filming celebrity interviews, corporate promos and international event coverage, before pivoting into commercial finance in 2014. He joined HSBC with no formal finance qualifications but with an instinct for business storytelling and a deep belief in customer-first thinking. Stefan has since worked across multiple roles; from front-line SME relationship management to international trade finance in the Mid-Market space, before transitioning into his current leadership role – driven by a focus on developing the future of the frontline & SME world regardless of background.Stefan has built a reputation for spotting opportunities to strengthen corporate brands like HSBC in underserved markets - whether through partnerships like the Black Business Show or community advocacy work supporting Black entrepreneurs. Stefan’s background in media production and entrepreneurship has uniquely positioned him to approach hearts and minds differently, leveraging storytelling as a strategic tool to influence, motivate and build trust.
