ABOUT STEFANO SCHIAVON
We spend most of our time in built spaces that substantially affect our health, wellbeing, productivity, energy consumption and overall environmental impact. Buildings accounted for 39% of US primary energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and 72% of US electrical energy consumption. I have been working on aspects of each of these issues.I am focused on finding ways to reduce energy consumption in buildings and, at the same time, improve indoor environmental quality.I worked on HVAC systems, thermal comfort, air quality, heat stress and human performance. I am familiar with building performance simulations, laboratory measurements, post occupancy evaluations and on the effect of the indoor environment on health, productivity and satisfaction. I am a Professor of Architecture and Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley and I am the Center for the Built Environment (CBE) Associate Director of Research. Specialties: Sustainable Building Design; Indoor Environment Quality; Building Energy Efficiency; Thermal Comfort; Indoor Air Quality; Energy Simulation; Occupant satisfaction; Post-Occupancy Evaluation; Radiant Systems; Underfloor Air Distribution.
