ABOUT STEFANO VALENTINO
I am an investigative, multimedia and entrepreneurial journalist based in Brussels. I am passionate about topics that expose the intersection between conflicts, sustainability and digitalization. I am the Founder of MobileReporter, a Google-funded collaborative journalism platform which won the IPI News Challenge Contest 2012. Through MobieReporter, I am also a member of member of the European Data Journalism Network (EDJNET) that affiliates 16 news media across Europe. I am committed to investigate the fundamental structures of our production and consumption culture that keep our development system unsustainable from an environmental, economical and ethical perspective. I am specialized on climate change, natural resources, indgigenous communities, international policy-making and corporate lobbying. I am currently developing a long-term project aiming to document the ongoing mutations and scientific research in the Arctic in connection with climate change, through using Google Maps 360° photos in order to reach a wide audience. Since 2011 my investigations on corporate lobbying pressures within the EU policy-making on climate and pollution received grants from major international grant-making foundations, including the Society for Environmental Journalism, the Fund for Investigative Journalism and the European Fund for Investigative Journalism. I have worked as a global freelancer for the last 15 years, reporting from more than 30 countries, both as an EU and as a foreign correspondent. My stories appeared on major international print and online publications, including the Guardian (UK), L’Express (France/Belgium), il Sole 24 Ore (Italy), NRC Handelsblad (the Netherlands), Christian Science Monitor (USA). I specialized in digital content production as an International Visting Scholar at Berkeley University\'s Journalism School. Since 2012 I have trained journalism interns in Brussels through EU-funded educational programmes and professional journalists in Rome through seminars promoted by the Italian Press Association.
