ABOUT STEEWA MARIA PHILIP
I’m a second-generation Malayali immigrant based in Vancouver and a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs student at UBC. With a background in Economics, Political Science, and Sociology, I’m passionate about how good policy can improve everyday lives. My experience spans climate adaptation with BC Nature, mental health education with the Sarg Initiative in Mumbai, to my current engagement on AI and elections with the Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions. Whether I’m analyzing policy, designing programs, or working directly with communities, my goal is to make complex systems more transparent, inclusive, and people-centered.I bring skills in policy research and analyis, project coordination, communications, and community engagement — from preparing reports and presentations to building partnerships and outreach strategies. I enjoy connecting data, people, and ideas to help governments and organizations make informed, equitable decisions that genuinely reflect community needs and priorities.Based in Vancouver, I’m always looking to collaborate on initiatives that strengthen local capacity, close equity gaps, and create policies that drive real, lasting change on the ground. If you’re working toward making public policy more inclusive, community-led, and impactful, I’d love to connect and explore how we can work together.
