Though a design role at heart, Design Development at Sprout is a technical discipline, requiring expert-level HTML/CSS skills and strong Javascript fundamentals. Design Developers use code to advocate for users, ensuring guidelines for usability, accessibility, and aesthetics are met at the component level. Design Developers build and maintain our pattern libraries and design system. They work side-by-side with Web Engineers, Web Designers, UX Designers, Visual Designers and Copywriters to build web pages and components in Sprout’s WordPress CMS, third-party tools and platforms. In this role, I contribute to testing, standardization, refactoring, and general improvement of web pages, components and processes. Among these contributions, I collaborate with Marketing teams to develop best practices for Digital Accessibility. As a Senior Design Developer, I am able to own technical decisions for systems and explain the high-level benefits and compromises of those decisions. I pair with, and mentor, designers and developers to foster true collaboration, empathy and understanding across the disciplines, contributing to code bases and design tools alike. I am responsible for expanding our Digital Accessibility practices, creating standards, documenting conformance, and holding the team accountable to maintaining them.
