About Stan Sundel
In short, I keep the world’s most sensitive technologies out of the wrong hands — by building the policies that make that possible.I am a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) turned Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State, where I work at the intersection of emerging technology and national security. I advise on export controls for dual-use technologies (e.g, advanced semiconductors and quantum computing), coordinating interagency policy with the National Security Council and the Departments of Commerce, Defense, and Energy. I have also supported investment screening efforts related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).I have received multiple awards for my work at State, including the Superior Performance Award, Meritorious Honor Award, and Franklin Award.Previously, I was a Product Specialist at CyberVista, a cybersecurity training and workforce development company. In a prior lifetime, I was a journalist for several national news networks — where, among other highlights, I produced interviews with everyone from Bill Clinton to Big Bird.I hold a Master\'s in Security Studies from Georgetown\'s School of Foreign Service and a Bachelor\'s in History, magna cum laude, from Brown University. In my spare time, I enjoy drumming at local jam sessions, playing tennis, and writing (questionably humorous) sketch comedy.
