About Stacy Sutton Kerby

My career in animal advocacy began in 2012 as a hands-on volunteer with the Austin Humane Society and legislative liaison for the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN). Since then, I’ve served in a variety of leadership roles with local, state-based, and national animal protection organizations, including serving as THLN Interim Executive Director and Director of Government Relations, member of the Austin Bullhook Work Group (banning the use of bullhooks to abuse performing animals) and Board Member for the Hailey Foundation.Born a Hoosier, I’m a Longhorn twice over with a BS in Radio Television Film and a Master’s in Public Affairs from the University of Texas in Austin. Before making the move to animal welfare, I worked as an intellectual property paralegal, and volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and foster parent for children in the Texas foster care system. In 2019, I brought animal welfare and family violence experts together to launch Safekeeping, a collaboration of The Safe Alliance and Austin Humane Society. The program has since changed its name but continues providing vital services to people with pets fleeing domestic violence. An avid student of the human-animal bond, I love reading non-fiction about all creatures great and small, and slowly, but eventually, finishing 10K races. My motto is “use your time wisely!” which for me means trying to get the most I can out of every day.including snuggling with Sunney, our formerly chained Pitbull turned coach potato.
