Oversee government relations staff, advocacy campaigns and industry outreach of the APTA Government Affairs and Advocacy department as it carries out its legislative-related activities on behalf of 1500-member trade association; advocate for public transportation and rail issues before key committees of the Senate and House, the Administration, and with coalition partners; and develop strategies to influence legislation of interest to the transit and passenger rail industry in accordance with APTA priorities. Serve as advisor for three subcommittees of the APTA Legislative Committee: Commuter and Intercity Passenger Rail, Federal Procedures and Regulations, and Funding, Finance and Tax Policy. Additional focus areas include mobility and technology, Medicaid/non-emergency medical transportation issues, environment, and safety.Recent legislative efforts: CARES Act ($25 billion in COVID-19 emergency funding for public transportation agencies); H.R. 2, the INVEST in America Act ($163 billion, 5-year authorization for transit and passenger rail programs).
