I’m a Software Engineer on a UW–Madison capstone internship with GE HealthCare. My focus is last-minute device provisioning for hospital deployments. I am working on building off-site pre-provisioning and a QR-based, headless bootstrap on Android (Kotlin) and iOS (Swift) with offline cache, background tasks, and notifications, so field engineers can start devices without CLI steps in low-signal environments. This workflow is aimed to cut on-site setup to <= 15 minutes and supports an offline-friendly flow when Wi-Fi is spotty.On the backend, I implemented a containerized provisioning service on Kubernetes with an idempotent, retryable state machine, BLE serial write-back, and OpenAPI contracts for clean integration. I instrumented structured logs and produced weekly bottleneck reports to help ops spot slow steps and remediation patterns. I also replaced raw error dumps with “steps-to-success” guidance in the app to improve diagnosis and first-time-right installs.I collaborated with field engineers and product mentors on interview-driven improvements (connectivity fallbacks, pre-provisioning, and success criteria) and aligned app UX with the realities of server rooms (limited coverage, time pressure). The result is a more resilient setup path that makes provisioning faster, clearer, and easier to support.
