ABOUT SRUJANA MERUGU

Solving problems requires humility, empathy, and perseverance. It demands a willingness to learn, adapt, and look beyond technology as a silver bullet. This has been my primary learning as a technologist working with a diverse set of people on research, designing systems, building teams, teaching, social causes, and entrepreneurial efforts. My professional journey includes:• Nearly two decades of experience solving large-scale data science problems in the internet, enterprise, and e-commerce domains as part of the premier ML groups at corporate research labs.• Research experience with publications in top machine learning venues such as KDD, ICML, SDM, CIKM, & ICDM with multiple best paper awards.• Over five years of consulting practice on data science strategy, setting up data science teams and processes. Focused engagements with multiple startups and non-profit organizations in education, healthcare, CRM, SaaS, and Fintech domains. • Experience working with government agencies as part of multi-organization collaborative initiatives related to COVID-19 response and national digital health. • ML Application Domains: Information retrieval, Recommendation systems, Information extraction, Record linkage, Fraud detection, Credit risk analysis, Time series forecasting, Collaborative knowledge management systems.• Current Research Interests: Control of dynamical systems, ML for health, Modeling human behavior, Platform economics and evolution, Data privacy & economics, Equitable assessment and allocation.
