Blacksburg, VA, US

As the Electronics & Propulsion lead on Design Build Fly, I am responsible for designing the motor-propeller-battery configuration for our annual competition aircraft using MotoCalc. This simulation software provides estimates of static thrust, endurance, and other key performance metrics with our selected airfoil, motor, battery pack, and propeller. My leadership has been crucial in selecting configurations using simulations and running thrust tests in our bay to ensure they are truly the best fit for the aircraft. Additionally, my subteam and I solder the wiring for the entire competition aircraft, which connect components such as the battery pack, receiver, servos, and the motor configuration. Our plane in DBF is powered entirely by Li-Po batteries, which has provided valuable experience in working with electric propulsion.

ABOUT SRINIVASA SRINI NARAKUCHI

Hi there! I\'m Srini, and I\'m a Sophomore at Virginia Tech studying aerospace engineering. I intend to pursue a career in sustainable aeronautical propulsion. This summer, I will be interning at Verdantas Flow Labs in Holden, MA, as a Hydraulic Modeling Intern, where I will work on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of aero- and hydrodynamic systems. In the classroom, I have completed my sophomore-level aerospace courses and begun the more rigorous, foundational junior-level courses. In addition to my academics, I serve as the team lead for the Electronics & Propulsion subteam on VT\'s Design, Build, Fly team. In this role, I dedicate time each week to developing the optimal propeller/motor configuration for our team\'s competition aircraft. Moreover, I also guide my subteam members through leadership and mentorship. Continuing with the extracurricular theme, I am a member of two research teams mentored by Dr. Todd Lowe, both of which specialize in jet-engine particle ingestion. Finally, in addition to my aerospace interests, I am a member of Model UN, where I participate in weekly meetings and attend national conferences to refine my public speaking skills. I also help run BIRDMUNC and VTMUNC, our organization\'s collegiate and high school conferences, respectively, as crisis director and UDG of Technology.
