Since 2023, he’s been teaching generative AI workshops (he’s hit 18 countries and 22 cities in person, along with multiple Zoom sessions). He has served as Chief Digital Officer of New York City, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Columbia University (where he was a full-time professor of journalism for 20+ years). He was the inaugural Marshall Loeb Visiting Professor of Digital Innovation and Audience Engagement at Stony Brook School of Communication and Journalism. Since 2023, he has co-hosted the annual Nobel Peace Conference in Oslo and served for three years on the board of Nobel Prize Outreach. In 1994, he co-founded SAJA, the South Asian Journalists Association, and in ONA, the Online News Association (and was founding administrator of the Online Journalism Awards by ONA).As a freelance tech expert, he has served as on-air commentator for 800+ segments on WABC, WNBC, WCBS, CNBC and has written 40+ pieces for the NYT.For four years, he taught a course on entrepreneurship at Columbia with Ken Lerer, co-founder of Huffington Post, chairman of Buzzfeed & co-founder of VC firm LererHippeau. In 2015, Fast Company named him one of the 100 most creative people in business and in 2010, he was named one of the 35 most influential people in social media by the Poynter Institute. In 2004, Newsweek named him one of the 20 most influential “young” South Asians in America, along with Kamala Harris, M. Night Shyamalan and Norah Jones. In 2014, he was named world\'s most influential CDO by CDO Club. In 2012, he was named to a seed list of the top 100 journalists of the previous century by Unity: Journalists of Color. In 2020, the President of Italy awarded Sree the knighthood of the Order of the Star of Italy for his role in promoting US-Italian relations.
