About Spencer Klein
I am an experimental physicist with broad interests in areas of astrophysics, particle interactions in matter and radiation detection. Much of my work centers around the experimental detection of astrophysical neutrinos using large (> 1 km^3) detectors which observe the light or radio waves created by the particles produced when neutrinos interact in Antarctic ice. At LBNL, I lead the Neutrino Astronomy Group in the Nuclear Science Division; the group is focused mostly on studying diffuse astrophysical neutrinos observed in IceCube, and working on the proposed ARIANNA detector, which will study extremely high energy neutrinos.I served as the Deputy Director of the 120 member Nuclear Science Division from 2011 to 2013. I am also interested in applications of physics, particularly to archaeology.
