Fixer upper includes two different elements: home renovation and contracting; and finding, repairing, and reselling real estate – often referred to as “fix and flip.”To take something that no one wants and turn it into something everyone wants is, to me, a work of art. I’m able to apply this love of housing and design in both aspects of my business. I grew up in the world of property renovation and sales: my father was in real estate and my grandfather owned and maintained properties. I worked alongside him and learned how to repair homes and keep customers happy. It was natural for me to go into real estate and renovation after my service in the Air Force.My responsibilities: Participate in the conceptual development of construction projects and oversee organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation Plan, direct, and coordinate activities concerned with construction and maintenance Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking reports Negotiate contracts or revisions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors Monitor compliance with building and safety codes and environmental regulations and ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed Perform prebuilding assessments, such as conceptual cost estimating, rough order of magnitude estimating, feasibility, or energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainability assessmentsIn the process of building my business, I frequently needed funds on short notice in order to make a repair or a purchase.
