ABOUT SEBASTIAN PENA SERNA
I am the founder of clesgo, a startup working toward facilitating the democratization and adoption of ICT-enabled solutions in the manufacturing industry, and I am finalizing my Ph.D. at the Technische Universität Darmstadt.I worked with ESI Group in the position of Domain Lead Geometry until January, 2016 and I was the deputy head of the Competence Center \"Interactive Engineering Technologies\" at Fraunhofer IGD until September, 2013. My main R&D interests are cloud computing, computational geometry, geometry and mesh processing, mechanical design and robotic kinematics.I co-chaired VAST 2011 and I has been member of the following scientific committees: WEB3D (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), IDETC/CIE (2009), Computer & Graphics (Vol. 34, Vol. 35), VAST (2010, 2011, 2012), CONTENT (2011, 2012, 2013), SCSC (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), 3DOC (2012), IMR (2012), JOCCH, EWCO and the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission.I am member of ACM, Eurographics, ASME, and GI. I have participated and contributed to the following German and European projects: ViSiCADE, AIM@SHAPE, NUSIM, FunctionalDMU, FOCUS K3D, 3D-COFORM, CAD2Vis, Clean Sky, IQmulus, Promo-Air, CloudFlow, CAxMan, CloudiFacturing, DIGITbrain, PULSATE, and CO-VERSATILE.I started my R&D career during my mechanical engineering studies at the EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia. The topic of my diploma thesis was \"Deterministic and Heuristic Methods in 2-Manifold Reconstruction\" and it was developed at the CAD/CAM/CAE Laboratory of the EAFIT University and at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications of the University of Vigo in Spain. After finishing my studies, I was invited in January 2005 by the Competence Center for Interactive Engineering Technologies of Fraunhofer IGD to make a research internship for 6 months. By the end of this internship, I was granted a scholarship by the INI-GraphicsNet Foundation for the ICPNM Program at the IMEDIA Academy in Providence, USA. Thereafter, I joined Fraunhofer IGD as research fellow.
