ABOUT SOWMYA PARTHASARATHY
I am an architect and urban designer with 30 years of global experience in the US, UK, Middle East, and India. I have led multidisciplinary teams, and been a key member of others, in preparing award-winning masterplans, strategic plans, and urban design guides for institutions, city districts, neighbourhoods, waterfronts, brownfield sites, and public open space. I have worked in the public as well as private sector on projects such as: London\'s 2012 Olympic Legacy Masterplan; a plan for the expansion of the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in South Cambridgeshire; a new 7 square km urban district near Muscat Oman; the redevelopment of inner city districts in New York and San Francisco, and plans for urban Universities such as Imperial College London, Harvard University, Brown University and El Hassan Science City, Jordan. I am a Mayor’s Design Advocate responsible for promoting design excellence as part of the Mayor of London\'s Good Growth by Design programme. I also serve as a UK Design Council Ambassador and am a member of the UK government\'s New Towns Taskforce.My projects have been awarded top recognition by professional associations such as- Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) National Award, 2013 (Olympic & Legacy Masterplans)- London Planning Award, Best Conceptual Project, 2012/13 (Olympic Legacy Masterplan)- New London Architecture Best Masterplan / Best Overall Project, 2012 ( Legacy Masterplan)- American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Award for Urban Design, 2005 (Anacostia Waterfront)- AIA National Urban Design Award, 2004 (Mission Bay)- AIA Honour Award for Collaborative Achievement, 2003 (New York New Visions; post 9/11 plans)- Friends of the High Line (NYC) International Design Competition: Honourable Mention, 2003- American Planning Association (APA), Outstanding Award, 2003 (Presidio Planning)
