Kicking Off My Fellowship Journey with Teach For India I’m honored to share that I’ve officially begun my professional journey as a Year 1 Fellow with Teach For India, placed at Samaritan Mission High School, Howrah. As I step into this role, I carry with me deep gratitude, curiosity, and a renewed sense of purpose.Coming from a background in Sociology, I’ve always sought to understand how systems shape lives and identities. But with Teach For India, theory meets reality. I now find myself in classrooms where marginality and resilience co-exist—where learning is not just a subject, but a tool of transformation.The Institute, our first touchpoint, was more than a training—it was a mirror. It asked not what I knew, but what I was ready to confront within. Among 90+ Fellows, I found connection, shared vulnerability, and a collective dream for equity.Teach For India hasn’t pulled me away from my discipline; it has pulled me deeper into it. I’m no longer observing social realities—I’m living them. I’ve moved from the lens of academia to the ground of action, where each child challenges what I know, and each interaction invites me to unlearn.Leadership here means alignment—with self, with community, and with a dream of justice. As a Year 1 Fellow with Teach For India, placed at Samaritan Mission High School, Howrah, I am committed to advancing educational equity by working directly in under-resourced classrooms. Drawing from my academic foundation in Sociology at Jadavpur University, I bridge theory with practice—moving from studying systemic inequities to actively engaging with them on the ground. My role as an educator is not only about teaching—it is about leading self, inspiring others, and contributing to the collective vision of a just India. Previously, I had the privilege of representing West Bengal under the Ministry of Education’s Yuva Sangam initiative, participating in cultural exchanges, leadership sessions, and governance discussions. This experience sharpened my cross-cultural collaboration skills and deepened my commitment to inclusive development. In the corporate sphere, I worked with Axis Bank, where I supported client success by delivering tailored financial solutions, exceeding sales targets, and building long-term customer trust. My efforts strengthened client relationships while maintaining strict adherence to banking protocols and compliance standards. Across these experiences—whether in education, governance, or banking—I have cultivated a leadership style grounded in empathy, adaptability, and strategic problem-solving. Today, I channel these skills into my Fellowship, where each interaction with my students is both a moment of learning and a step toward social transformation.
