ABOUT SOUMYA GARNAIK

30 years of experience in Clean Energy, Energy Efficiency and Resource Conservation in various sectors of economy. I am serving as India Country Head of Global Green Growth Institute Prior to that I worked as Executive Director in Energy Efficiency Services Ltd.(EESL), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India; Principal & Head (Energy Efficiency) in ICF International, Director in Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Technical Expert in GTZ, Joint Director in the Resource Conservation & Management Division of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), and Deputy Director in Energy Management of National Productivity Council (NPC), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India. I have been involved in various techno-policy studies and interventions in energy conservation and efficiency in Asian countries, managing national energy efficiency schemes/programs of Govt. of India, developing energy conservation action plans of corporate, industrial sectors, states of India etc. I have extensive work experience in working or dealing with international agencies like World Bank, GIZ, ADB, UNEP, USAID, UNDP, UNIDO, DFID, CLASP, WRI, RMI, JICA, SAARC Energy Centre etc. in the domain of energy efficiency, clean energy and climate change.I have the privilege of working in Government (as policy maker, administrator, stakeholder manager), International Agencies (in advisory role), Public Sector (in Business Development and Program Implementation), Industry Association (in Policy advocacy) apart from representing many forums as Chair/Co-Chair/Member. I handled eleven major national and international programs (amounting to $ 300 million) in EESL. I also led a prestigious Indo-Israel Industrial R&D program, successfully led the South Asia Operations for EESL and was selected by Chiang Mai University, Thailand as an International Expert to design “Energy Performance Certificate Scheme” for Thailand.My expertise are in Policy Advisory and Thought Leadership in Clean Energy, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, Management Consulting, ESCO Project Management, Design of EE Financing, DSM, Appliance & Industrial Energy Efficiency, National Program Management in Government, Program design at national & international level, Stakeholder engagements, Energy Audits and technical consultancy, Capacity building, Fund raising, Expert trainer and Team lead.
