ABOUT SOUMEN KHAN

Experienced Computational Biologist specialising in high-throughput sequencing data analysis, bioinformatics pipeline development, and epigenetics research. With a PhD in Comparative Genomics and Postdoctoral expertise in multi-omics data analysis and epigenetic profiling, I have a strong track record of delivering data-driven insights for complex biological questions.In my current role as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Babraham Institute, I lead the analysis of sequencing datasets, integrating transcriptomic, single cell RNA-seq, DNA-seq and methylation data to uncover novel insights into gene regulatory mechanisms involved in development and diseases. This has resulted in two first-author publications and the development of a novel classifier for differentiating oocyte developmental stages in mice. I also design computational pipelines for motif analysis methods using Python and R programming.During my tenure as Team Lead for SARS-CoV2 Surveillance at IISER Pune, I spearheaded the sequencing of over SARS-CoV2 genomes, optimising the facility’s protocols and workflows, while ensuring rapid data analysis and reporting to governmental health agencies. My efforts helped document viral mutations during the three major COVID-19 waves in Pune city in India. Throughout my academic career, I have contributed to 7+ peer-reviewed publications in renowned journals, with 5 as the first author.
