ABOUT SOUMABHA CHAKRABORTY
I am an Environmental Engineer and Sustainability Strategist at Coal India Limited, working at the frontier where fossil fuel legacies evolve into post-extractive and regenerative futures. My professional journey spans more than a decade across India’s coal belts, shaped by a commitment to realign industrial systems with ecological integrity and human dignity. My worldview is grounded in Spirituality, Simplicity and Sustainability. These principles guide my work as I seek to harmonise policy, technology and planetary ethics. I strive to transform extractive energy frameworks into just and regenerative transitions that respect both communities and ecosystems.I work at the intersection of industry and academia, collaborating with CSIR laboratories and leading IITs to integrate advanced environmental methods into large-scale projects. My technical foundation includes environmental governance, regulatory compliance, and hands-on skills in Python, MATLAB, GAMS and GIS. These tools help me design spatially intelligent, data-driven strategies that support resilient and responsible mining transitions. At CIL, I contribute to Just Transition and Net Zero initiatives across multiple operational clusters, helping set new standards in environmental planning, energy equity and restoration pathways. As a Post Growth Fellow 2025, I continue to expand this mission by exploring post-growth economics, energy justice and spiritual ecology to rethink how resource-dependent regions can evolve with dignity.I am exploring advanced research opportunities in Sustainability Policy, Environmental Economics and Just Transition frameworks, including PhD pathways as well as collaborative research fellowships. My aim is to build globally relevant models of sustainability that reflect the lived realities of the Global South while remaining practical enough to guide real-world regeneration and policy transformation. If your work intersects with sustainability transitions, policy innovation, regenerative design or environmental justice, I would value the opportunity to connect. Together, we can shape a future that is more balanced, humane and ecologically aligned.
