ABOUT SORIN MIHAI

I am a Robotics & Systems Engineer with over 6 years of experience working in R&D and operational robotics environments at Ocado Technology.As a Prototype Test Engineer, I was responsible for ensuring the robotic fleet was maintained, repaired, validated and ready for testing within a live automation environment. I worked closely with robotic platforms and their associated peripherals, including conveyor systems, lifts, and other site-specific automation machinery.My role combined hands-on robotics engineering with tool and test development. I designed, built and programmed validation rigs and diagnostic tools to support site engineers — including a Nidec motor testing station and a Li-Ion battery recovery tool. I also developed software-based reporting and diagnostic tools for engineering and management teams.A key part of my work involved observing repetitive failure patterns, analysing root causes, and collaborating with design teams to improve robotic reliability and system robustness. This gave me strong exposure to real-world failure analysis, system validation, and iterative hardware/software improvement cycles.Alongside my professional work, I operate a fully equipped home robotics workshop where I design and prototype embedded systems and control projects. I actively study and experiment with embedded C, ROS2, control systems, and mechatronics, continuously expanding my technical skill set.I am currently seeking opportunities in Robotics R&D, Space Systems, or Embedded Engineering roles, and I am open to commuting to the Cambridge area.
