ABOUT SORAYA M.
Soraya has more than 14 years of worldwide experience in the legal, immigration, administration, interpretation, and translation fields. As a former judge from Afghanistan and as an immigration specialist here in Canada, her passion is to facilitate the integration of refugees and newcomers in Canada succeeding in their immigration process to make Canada their home. She is currently working as a Canadian Orientation Abroad Facilitator with the IOM Canada where she provides orientation to thousands of refugees and newcomers to Canada. After fleeing from Afghanistan, with an exception for a visit to the U.S, she migrated to four different countries including Pakistan, France, Australia, and eventually Canada. These migrations particularly helped her to overcome the challenges women face as refugees. It also helped her turn into an adaptable person of various cultures and communicate in a few languages (English, French, Dari/Farsi, Pashto, Urdu/Hindi, and basic Arabic).Since she fled from Afghanistan, she has reoriented her professional profile to focus on immigration, refugee matters, and international refugee laws. She has maintained an active interest in refugee law issues and welcomes opportunities to speak on international refugee laws, immigration matters, and the challenges women and girls encounter when they become refugees.
