ABOUT SOPHIE MCCOMBES
Regeneration Manager and experienced Architect, currently working in Liverpool City Council’s Regeneration Team within the City Development Directorate.I am passionate about urban design and city development as a driver for economic and social transformation for our communities. With a background in architecture, more recently I have moved into regeneration and development, where I have relished the opportunity to drive formative change by collaborating with stakeholders, developers and investors, to embed strong development objectives from the outset.I have excellent experience running city-centre development projects working across both private and public sectors. With strong design and leadership skills, I am an excellent problem solver, able to respond to the complex challenges that arise during development projects at every stage. I am passionate about sustainable design and a champion of a low carbon design approach.Through my work as an architect I played a key part in the development of Manchester city centre, working on and delivering notable projects across the city through my work at SimpsonHaugh and FCBStudios.I have worked on many creative re-use projects, including the redevelopment of nationally Listed and historically significant buildings. I have multiple years of experience working in the residential, higher education, commercial and public sectors.A champion of low carbon design, I often taking an advocacy role within the design team to ensure sustainable credentials are embedded within a project from the outset. I am practiced in designing buildings to passivhaus principles and working with consultants to develop environmental strategies to suit the needs to the project.I am a guest tutor/visiting critic at Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield Schools of Architecture. Helping guide students through the design process and bringing my professional experience to the sessions is both rewarding and inspiring. Whilst at university, my final year work was selected to feature in Blueprint magazine’s Top 50 UK Design Graduates 2009.
