I am the Head of Risk and Compliance for a consultancy service which provides support to all types of law firms in complying with their regulatory and statutory obligations. I am the technical lead so am responsible for developing services and processes, including our training and advisory offering. I carry out audits for the legal profession, both general compliance audits and more specific independent AML audits under the requirement of Regulation 21. I provide ongoing support to our clients, answering their queries about matters such as data protection, source of funds and wealth, client onboarding, continuing competence, breaches, claims and circumstances and general business risk and compliance issues. I am highly knowledgeable about the SRA regulatory requirements and ensure that our clients can comply with these. I use my years of experience working in-house for law firms leading their Risk and Compliance functions to provide detailed but practical and commercial advice about how to run their business whilst ensuring compliance is embedded, both culturally and through processes and procedures.I also carry out training for firms and senior managers in firms in respect of their different duties. I regularly speak on webinars or at events, both internally and when invited to by external organisations such as the Law Society.
