When you buy a gallon of gas, 18.4 cents of your purchase (or the \"gas tax\") goes to the federal government to help pay for bridges, tunnels, highways, and public transit. Because we are moving toward an EV and high-mpg vehicle future, the revenue from the gas tax is decreasing, meaning less money to roads and transit. As Highway Revenue Alternatives Policy Advisor at Federal Highway Administration, I am researching ways to convert our current national system to a more financially sustainable and equitable one for the future.I also serve as a Technical Advisor for ARPA-Infrastructure on the X-BRIDGE program to build a bridge in half the cost, half the time, and last twice as long; as well as the INSIGHTS program to combine LiDAR, aerial imagery, and other data to generate a complete digital copy of metro areas.
