ABOUT SOPHIA VEIRAS
My interest in rehabilitation science was first ignited through my participation in the sport of wrestling. My experience as a freshman on the high school boys varsity wrestling team was pitiful at best. Of the 33 matches I wrestled that season; I won only one. Determined to prove myself as a successful woman in a traditionally male dominated sport, I recognized the importance of incorporating accessory work to supplement my hard work on the mats. My persistence proved to be successful, as I eventually became the National Collegiate Wrestling Association’s Women’s National Champion in 2011. It wasn’t until I joined the Northeastern University Powerlifting team that I discovered the allure behind strength training. My time on the team has been invaluable for my personal and professional development. Inspired by my love for rehabilitation science and enthusiasm for educating others, I have naturally embraced opportunities to lead group stretching, develop preventative rehabilitation programs, and coach individual athletes. My compassionate character finds me regularly staying beyond practice hours to evaluate, assess, and treat my teammates’ injuries. My interests include orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, the female athlete, women’s health and community health. Through my work, I aspire to provide high quality physical therapy services that empower, educate, and enable individuals to attain greater independence, health, wellness, and quality of life. My greatest interest lies in preventative care, where I hope to work with collegiate sports teams to develop customized, dynamic stretching, strengthening, and rehabilitation programs. My desire to help the surrounding community coupled with my love for the classroom and teaching, has inspired me to one day become a physical therapy professor to share my knowledge and excitement for my profession with a future generation of physical therapists.
