ABOUT SOPHIA RILEY SIM
I am a sophomore in the Cornell University Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, majoring in Public Policy and a minor candidate for Media Studies and Law & Society. My passion for government affairs and journalism has led me to being a Staff News Writer for the Cornell Daily Sun, with my specialized beat being Cornell Administration. Additionally, studying public policy has led me to write policy memos and proposals pertaining to the reform of the US education system and environmental policy that fosters sustainability. I am actively involved in the communities I belong to, as I first started off by working for the City of Irvine as a Community Service Leader. In this position, I had the privilege of working with elementary students in after school programs that I would program and lead. Within the Cornell community, I am a member of the Student Assembly’s Finance Committee, where I participate in hearings for student organizations that receive Student Activity funding and deliberate on the allocation of those resources. Being on the Varsity Swim Team, I have learned how to thoroughly organize my time while under tight deadlines being a reporter for the Cornell Daily Sun. Through my time at Cornell, I have strengthened my communication, writing, and leadership skills. Additionally, I have learned how to code in Stata and R.
