ABOUT SOPHIA MYERS
I was raised in the midst of the winding roads and rolling hills of Ohio\'s Appalachian Country. I drove 30 minutes to high school where I passed exits to coal mines, lots of oil and gas hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) sites, and an abundance of trees. After graduating from River High School in 2021, I left the crossroads of Pittsburgh steel, West Virginia coal, and Ohio agriculture for Southwest Ohio to study at Miami University, an original Public Ivy with “The most beautiful campus that ever there was.” In addition to obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in strategic communication and political science, I graduated cum laude with Media, Journalism, and Film Departmental Honors and obtained a minor in community-based leadership. As the 2021 Monroe County recipient of the Ohio Governor\'s Scholarship, a Miami award which covers full tuition and general fees for a top student from each of Ohio’s 88 counties, I was able to pursue my passions while continuing my academic and professional development.Now that I’ve left the red brick of Oxford behind, I’m striving for a better Ohio for all. In my current role as the Communications Coordinator for the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus, I’m working to increase community outreach and promote Democratic values in Ohio.
