ABOUT SOPHIA SOPHIE POISSANT
As a junior at Connecticut College I am working toward completing my double major in Global Islamic Studies and International Relations along a minor in Arabic Studies. Academically, my interests lie in the intersection of politics and religion in predominantly Muslim countries. I believe a deeper understanding of this relationship will allow the United States to conduct more equitable relations with these states. As part of this pursuit, my foremost academic goal is to obtain proficiency in the Arabic language. All of this will culminate in the research I am conducting as a selected scholar in the Center for International Study and the Liberal Arts (CISLA) where I am investigating the employment of religious discourse to bolster nationalist efforts in the Israel/Palestine conflict.
