ABOUT SOPHIA MOHAMED
I’m a Registered Early Childhood Educator, Education Program Specialist, child care policy researcher and faculty member at George Brown College in the School of Early Childhood Education. I have an exceptional understanding of the regualtory environemtn in Canada, early childhood education and care policy across Canada, and a vested interest in research and advocacy for children, families, and the ECEC workforce. As an Education Program Specialist I am responsible for leading the review and assessment of applications from post-secondary institutions (public and private) for program approval at the College of Early Childhood Educators. I also work on a number of projects related to the dvelopment and implimentation of policies for assessments, stakeholder management, relationship building with government and general queries with regards to Registration with the College of ECEs. In my role as a professor at George Brown College, I create learning environment and work collaboratively with ECE students to understand the histories and current realities of Canadian Social Policy and ECEC Policy in Canada, Health and Safety Requirements for ECE in Ontario and support them to think critically about Educational Leadership. I am a children\'s rights champion, and believe that all children should have access to quality, accessible, and affordable child care. I have a keen an avid interest in ECEC workforce policy, the care economy and the devaluation of care work in a heteronormative and neo-liberal environment using an intersectional feminist approach. When I’m not on the job, I enjoy reading books, trying new recipes, spending time with my family, and crisp mornings with a cup coffee.
