About Sophia Cobert

Born in the DC Metro Area, I had a passion for policy at an early age. I participated in my first political campaign in 2012, and have worked with/for nine Democratic campaigns since. After I moved to Austin, TX in 2017 and attended college at Texas Tech University, I knew I wanted to work for a Texas Democrat in Congress.At Texas Tech, I was an exceptional Public Relations and Political Science dual-major student. I minored in Spanish as well, while consistently achieving Dean\'s/President’s List and receiving excellent accolades from professors. Due to my innate interest in policy, I decided to begin my career in Washington, DC. I was awarded a legislative internship with Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC and was asked to return a year and a half later as her Scheduler. I’m a problem solver and an effective communicator in the workplace. These skills have distinguished me in numerous competitive settings. I hope to expand my policy knowledge while inspiring other young women to follow their aspirations, especially in male-dominated fields.

   As a Scheduler for Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, I compile her daily and long-term schedule in both Washington, DC and Houston, Texas. In and out of session, I work with a variety of stakeholders to balance her time between commitments while also ensuring there is smooth communication between our DC/district offices and TX-29 constituents. I process meeting requests and event invitations around a busy legislative schedule to be compiled daily/weekly depending on the request. Additionally, I organize the Congresswoman’s daily and weekly air/auto travel with our Staff Assistant with accurate commute times. For administrative responsibilities, I manage the office legislative database, flight reimbursement tracker, and submit her living expenses monthly for reimbursement.
