ABOUT SOPHIA BENNER

Thanks for the interview Walk Raleigh!http://blog.walkyourcity.org/post/10••••••••72/walk-raleigh-meets-austinThe interviewer becomes the interviewee. I highlighted the Walk Raleigh project in my thesis for its transformation from a citizen-led movement to a City-sanctioned project. After including a blurb about them in the Austin Urban Trails Master Plan they interviewed me on the connection between tactical urbanism and strategic, formal planning. Cheers! My thesis on >>Tactical Urbanism: From Civil Disobedience to Civic Improvement<< This report contributes to the limited research on tactical urbanism by analyzing existing theory which discusses and supports the concept of tactical urbanism. After providing a theoretical foundation, four interventions displayed at the Architecture Biennale in 2012 are reviewed to demonstrate the significance and potential of this emerging approach. By evaluating the theoretical support behind tactical urbanism, the lacunae in planning literature, and the potential of this emerging approach as demonstrated by the four case studies, this report attempts to legitimize the discussion on tactical urbanism and identify how this emerging approach can fit into the formal planning process.
