About Soodeh Moallemian
I am a postdoctoral researcher dedicated to exploring the complexities of aging and neurodegenerative diseases, with a specific focus on Alzheimer’s disease. I earned my PhD in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Liege, where I studied image-derived biomarkers of aging and Alzheimer’s disease. This work gave me a solid foundation in neuroimaging techniques, including fMRI, structural MRI, PET, and quantitative MRI. Since then, I have aimed to use these tools to deepen our understanding of how aging impacts the brain.Currently, I am based at the Aging & Brain Health Alliance at Rutgers University, where I work as a postdoctoral associate. My research focuses on how different brain tissue properties, like gray matter atrophy and iron levels, contribute to cognitive decline in aging.My project is particularly centered on late middle-aged African American individuals, a population that has been underrepresented in Alzheimer’s research. My work aims to identify early MRI markers that may help detect risk factors for Alzheimer’s and clarify how combined tissue properties might influence this risk.
