Sonia Barros is a partner in Sidley’s Capital Markets, Corporate Governance, and Securities Enforcement and Regulatory practices, and co-leads Sidley’s Public Company Advisory Practice. A thought leader in identifying and resolving complex issues facing public companies, she has over 30 years of experience advising public companies on disclosure, financial reporting issues, corporate governance, capital raise and mergers and acquisitions. Sonia’s experience includes a number of leadership roles at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over 17 years, including serving as the Chief Corporate Governance Counsel in the Division of Corporation Finance, where she was the senior advisor on corporate governance policy and disclosures, and Assistant Director in the SEC’s Office of Real Estate and Commodities, where she had oversight authority for thousands of transactions and reviews of corporate disclosures, including financial statements, under the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
