ABOUT SONIA SGRO
With a degree in Political Science specialising in International Relations and Human Rights, I bring a deep understanding of policy, advocacy, and the societal impact of healthcare. For more than 15 years, I have dedicated my career to amplifying the voices of people living with rare diseases. At Chiesi Global Rare Diseases, as Head of Patient Advocacy for Europe and International, I work to ensure that the needs, experiences, and priorities of patients and their families are reflected across the entire lifecycle of our programmes. I strongly believe in operating beyond therapeutic-area boundaries to strengthen collaboration with the rare disease community and co-create solutions that can truly generate meaningful impact. My role focuses on connecting countries and functions—such as Public Affairs and Market Access—to build a unified and patient-centred approach. Working across borders allows me to foster dialogue, anticipate shared challenges, and drive initiatives that support equitable access and sustainable improvements in care. It also enables the sharing of best practices and helps break the isolation that many people living with rare diseases often experience, building stronger connections and a more supportive, inclusive community.Throughout my career, I have partnered closely with patient organisations, healthcare professionals, and research teams to shape initiatives that address the unique and often complex realities of rare diseases. These collaborations have helped build stronger networks, improve access pathways, and promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and inclusivity within the industry.Passionate about bridging the gap between industry and the patient community, I am committed to advancing advocacy efforts that champion innovation, partnership, and real-world impact.
