ABOUT SOM TRIPATHI
I’m a Software Engineering student at Iowa State University, pursuing a minor in Artificial Intelligence and a Data Science Certificate. My interests lie at the intersection of software, statistics, and real-world machine learning applications. I’m deeply driven by the idea of building intelligent systems that make sense of complex data, whether to power autonomous decision-making, model financial systems, or optimize physical processes. I’ve had the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research in machine learning and image processing, working on a project focused on Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). My work involved detecting and tracking spatter ejections from melt pool footage, using Python, OpenCV, NumPy, SciPy, and Scikit-learn. This project taught me how to combine statistical modeling, image data, and algorithmic logic to extract insights from dynamic, real-world systems. It also sparked my interest in how these same technical approaches could be applied in entirely different industries—especially quantitative finance and applied AI domains. Right now, I’m building out my experience through independent projects that combine AI, programming, and data modeling. I’m especially interested in systems that demand both mathematical precision and engineering creativity: whether that’s in trading algorithms, autonomous machines, or intelligent software platforms. I’m also working toward a concurrent master’s degree in computer science, which will allow me to deepen my foundation in algorithms, optimization, and large-scale system design. Long-term, I’m aiming to work in roles that sit at the edge of technical depth and practical impact positions where real-time decision-making, high-performance computing, and AI all converge. Whether it\'s quant research, AI infrastructure, or ML-driven product development, I want to be building systems that make smart decisions under pressure.
