ABOUT SOMSUBHRA BARIK
I am an Wireless Systems Engineer in the Wireless Research and Development at Qualcomm, San Diego. My current responsibilities include designing and innovating multi-track features and algorithms for 6G Physical and Mac Layer communication, focusing on IP development and standardization.Previously, I worked on the fixed point design and implementation for 5G NR standards, developed timeline simulators, characterized power performance of CA/DC envelopes, and analyzed post-silicon bringup during the commercialization of 5G NR premiere tier modems.I completed my Ph.D. in the Decision, Information and Communications Engineering (DICE) track of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Austin, where I was part of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG).I have 2+5 years of academic research experience and over 10 years of industrial research and development experience. One of my other focus areas is optimization and applied machine learning algorithms with applications in wireless Communication and computational biology, and software development in network protocols and drivers.I am passionate about solving challenging problems through the design and analysis of efficient and scalable algorithms, particularly in large-scale data mining where sparsity or structure can be exploited to improve accuracy and speed. In the past, I have worked on miscellaneous wireless communication problems, including research experience in MIMO precoding and HTTP based video streaming over LTE. I have had a network engineering background with cross-layer protocol development and have held appointments at InSilixa, Bell Labs-Alcatel Lucent (now Nokia Bell Labs), Apple, and Juniper Networks.
