About Solomon Tolson

I am a problem-solving, driven engineering student focused on the environment and space exploration and technology. My goal is to be part of an organization that is focused on innovation for space or the environment. Working on the newest generation of satellites or changing global energy usage and sources is the dream that inspires me.As a member of the electrical team in The Vanderbilt Fusion Project, I collaborate with other team members to design the electrical systems of an inertial electrostatic confinement (IEC) nuclear fusion reactor. We have developed a 50 kV electrical system, requiring insulative components to prevent arcing and safety implementations to prevent human injury.I previously was co-president of the Vanderbilt Club Baseball team. In this role, the other co-president and I oversaw all baseball operations. I communicated with opposing schools to create a competitive schedule year-round, operated a budget, organized travel throughout the southeast, and collaborated with the University Recreation Center for all administrative tasks. Regarding baseball specifically, the other co-president and I were in charge of practice organization, in-game management, and equipment and field maintenance.I have worked in teams and have held leadership roles throughout my life, and I have continued to do so at Vanderbilt. I served as student body president in high school, held leadership roles on various sports teams and in my fraternity, and have always competed on sports teams, developing teamwork, sportsmanship, and time management skills. When I am not studying or working, I love to play sports and be outside. I competed on varsity baseball and basketball throughout high school and continue to play both through club and intramural organizations at Vanderbilt. In addition, I enjoy puzzles, social events, and watching movies.
