Practica is an independent online platform for type design education.We offer a practical, in-depth approach to learning type design—from structure and consistency to expansion and production. Since launching in 2020, we’ve completed six editions of our Latin program and, in the past two years, expanded to include Devanagari script courses led by expert instructors.As co-founder, I lead the curriculum design and shape the overall direction of the platform. I’m also involved in teaching, mentoring, facilitating critiques, and hosting Q&A sessions.

ABOUT SOL MATAS
I’m a type designer, font production specialist, and educator based in Berlin. I design custom and multi-script typefaces (Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Oriya) and collaborate with designers and foundries worldwide to bring projects into production. My work has been recognized by the European Design Awards, Tipos Latinos, and the International Typography Congress in Valencia.Alongside client and community projects, I co-direct Practica Program, an online type design school with Nicole Dotin. I’ve served on the board of the Type Directors Club, organized its first Latin America–focused ChaCheChi conference, judged competitions including TDC Ascenders, LAD Awards, and D & AD, and contribute to Alphabettes, Typographica, and the Berlin Typostammtisch.
