About Sohag Kumar Saha
I\'m working towards my Ph.D. in Engineering degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Tennessee Technological University, where I serve as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Smart Grid Lab under the Center for Energy Systems Research (CESR). My anticipated graduation date is Fall 2025. With over 6 years of professional experience in power generation and distribution utilities, particularly in grid substation operation and maintenance, and 3.5+ years of active research experience in power systems at Tennessee Tech, my current research is focused on advancing modern power systems using green energy resources along with intelligent techniques. My specific research interests lie in the development of intelligent energy management systems (EMS) for smart grids, microgrids, substation design, and protection and control systems. I am working on the efficient integration of renewable energy sources, including solar PV and battery energy storage systems, into the grid while maintaining compliance with system parameters such as voltage, current, and power limits. Additionally, my research incorporates the design and implementation of automatic islanding operations to enhance grid resilience, utilizing hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations. My technical expertise extends to the use of advanced tools such as Typhoon HIL, OpenDSS, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, as well as machine learning and deep learning techniques to develop intelligent EMS in microgrids.Based on my practical experience and research background, I am committed to contributing to the future of intelligent and sustainable energy management systems (EMS) through innovative research. I am actively seeking internship opportunities in power systems research and development that align with my focus on renewable energy integration, grid modernization, and advanced energy management strategies.
