About Sofia Pinto-Figueroa
Sofia Pinto-Figueroa is a passionate higher education administrator with over 19 years of experience in the field, ranging from academic affairs to student affairs. A proud triple Rutgers alumna, Dr. Pinto-Figueroa holds an Ed.D with a concentration in education, culture, and society; a MSW with a concentration in administration, policy, and planning; and a B.A. in finance, all from Rutgers University–New Brunswick.Dr. Pinto-Figueroa joined the Rutgers University-Newark community in 2008 as an academic advisor within the Office of Academic Services (OAS). Over the last sixteen years, she has served in multiple roles within OAS. In 2012, she was promoted to Assistant Dean of Pre-Professional Services, where she created and developed a unit within OAS specifically committed to guiding and assisting students with interests in pre-health, engineering, and law. In 2015, Dr. Pinto-Figueroa was appointed as Interim Associate Dean of Academic Services, where she managed the day to day operations of OAS. In 2017, she became the Dean of Academic Services, with responsibility for leading the OAS team of professionals who provide advisement and support to approximately undergraduate students. She currently serves as the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education within the School of Arts & Sciences at Rutgers-Newark.Additionally, she is very much engaged with the Rutgers-Newark community and has been involved with several campus-wide initiatives, including the implementation of the Run4Success platform, co-chair of the SOAR (Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration) committee, co-founder of and institutional representative to the RU-N chapter of the A.C.E. NJ Women’s Network, and the working group for the first-ever RU-N Staff Council. She has previously served as a part-time lecturer in the Social Work department and completed a fellowship with Leadership Newark, an organization whose mission is to be a catalyst to engage, empower, connect, and improve the network of community and civic leaders.
