ABOUT SOFIA DEL JUNCO
As a carpenter with a background in Environmental Design and Education, I have a passion for co-creating healthy and happy environments for the generations to come. This to me is the core meaning of the word \"Sustainability\". I have pursued this goal in a variety of roles over the years.Some Highlights Include-Leading Traditional Knowledge interviews with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers to aid in a variety of community development projects-Researching, writing, and generating graphic design elements for community Flood Vulnerability Studies -Co-leading consultations for a large-scale 911 Infrastructure and Mapping project with remote First Nations-Leading a Feasibility Study and drafting community-led Architectural designs for an independent community centre in a Priority Neighbourhood in Toronto-Designing C.E.L.L.(Centre for Ecology and Life Learning) for my Environmental Design thesis project: A community-centred eco-science centre and event space, featuring interactive nature exhibits, native food gardens, a community cafe, workshop spaces, passive energy design, a water capture and recycling system, and more-Working with youth in a variety of capacities, including leading youth-focused architectural design workshops, tour guiding for international students, wilderness skill training as a Scout Leader, and traditional classroom teaching from Kindergarten to Gr 8.At the centre of my practice, I have a focus on people and increasing the quality of life for all, by strengthening our connections to the natural world and each other. I have a special interesting in sustainable housing, cultural and community spaces, community planning, landscape design, youth empowerment, food sovereignty, and community building through de-colonized methods.Currently, I am pursuing an apprenticeship in Carpentry, to gain hands-on experience in building construction in order to reach my long term goals.
