ABOUT SMRITI LAMECH

Strategic Communications Leader | TEDx Speaker | Social Impact Entrepreneur | Mentor I tell stories that spark action and build strategies that create change. For 25 years, I’ve worked at the intersection of communications, editorial, and social impact - from shaping global narratives to amplifying grassroots empowerment. At Genpact, I led external and internal talent communications for employees across 30 countries, strengthening culture and brand reputation. Earlier, I honed my editorial craft across CNBC-TV18, Femina, India Today Group, and ICRA (a Moody’s company) among others, producing financial, lifestyle, women’s, and long-form writing that earned awards, visibility, and audience trust. As founder of The Smritsonian, I turned a pandemic-born idea into a women-led craftivist, feminist, social-impact brand creating handcrafted rag dolls of women achievers through history. Designed using Rudolf Steiner’s principles of early childhood learning and made by rural women’s self-help groups in Tamil Nadu, these dolls were exhibited at Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2022-23. Now, as Executive Advisor at India Nirman Sangh, a not-for-profit empowering women across 200+ self-help groups in the Palani Hills, I lead design interventions, branding, and upskilling, mentoring teams, and amplifying craft-based ventures while honoring Gandhian values of sustainability, self-reliance, and dignity. Adventures that fuel my storytelling include: • TEDx speaker, sharing my journey of craft and communication in 2023. • Featured in Of Mothers and Others (Zubaan Books, launched at Jaipur Lit Fest by Shabana Azmi, Forbes Must-Read List). • Featured in Shikha Khanna’s 100 Self-Portraits 100 Dreams, celebrating mothers across professions and communities, alongside Ashwini Nachappa, Maria Goretti, Deepa Malik, and Shellyann Siddo. • Collected and curated antique weaves; featured in Arshia Ladak’s A Wardrobe Full of Stories with Vidya Balan, Shobhaa Dé, and Swati Piramal. • Reported live during Mumbai floods. • Raised two wonderful children, now adults — my lifelong project and proudest achievement. • Dove at the Great Barrier Reef, wandered into a herd of Indian gaur, and lived to tell the tale. • Built a house in the hills, designing sewage, grey water, and rainwater systems myself. • Ran an award-winning parenting blog for a decade, sparking debate, community, and lasting friendships. • Written about food, shot with Karen Anand, and traveled for lifestyle and travel features. • Turned myself into a pretzel with aerial yoga.
