Hi, this is Smit here.I am currently working with the Azure Storage team responsible for extent nodes at the stream layer. I have worked as a full stack software engineer at Viva Learning where we built and developed an integrated learning platform for employees. It helped me gain exposure in the software development lifecycle : front-end development, back-end development and mobile development. I love participating in hackathons and have won the most innovative project in a week long hackathon.I love racking my brain at any new problem, be it a simple logical puzzle or debugging through hundreds of lines of code. Computers for me before joining BITS Hyderabad were only to play games, make PPTs and read textbook PDFs. It was after the amazing time at BITS Hyderabad that I learnt what all is actually possible using computers. Starting out with C in my first year to building websites using Node and React, it has been a wonderful journey full of learnings. I loved to solve logical puzzles given in newspapers and riddles sent on WhatsApp groups. This was my sole reason for joining Computer Science. This interest gradually nurtured into my love for learning algorithms and understanding how things actually work behind the 15 inch screen. I was introduced to the 4 pillars of Computer Science : Databases, Object Oriented Programming, Operating Systems and Networks within my first 2 years at undergrad. The one common thing I learnt from all courses is that nothing remains constant. Things keep evolving and we need to unlearn and relearn.I took up Data Mining in my second year and that was the stepping stone to my journey in Data Science. I took up a minor in Data Science and completed 5 courses related to the field. My internships at Amazon,Walmart Labs and MapMyIndia helped me understand how things work out in the industry. Good coding practices, building efficient scalable systems and not giving up were the key takeaways for me.I have just stepped foot into this amazing world of technology.    Joined the Azure Core org to take on responsibility for the Stream team in Azure Storage (data plane). The Stream store is the lowest layer of the Azure Storage service on which Blobs, Tables and Disks are built, and currently stores Exabytes of data on many thousands of servers worldwide.
